Jacob sheep are a primitive, horned breed. Both ewes and rams have either two, four or six horns. Their fleece is spotted -- white with dark brown spots. Their wool is a hand spinner's dream -- light, easy to spin, and most often suited to next-to-skin wear. Our Jacob sheep are bred for good temperament, ease of lambing and hand spinning fleeces. Our Jacob ewes are Perfect Spot Gloria (two horn, acquired 2005 from Cathy Robinson, Perfect Spot Farm), Son Rise Abigail-Bethany, Son Rise Samantha and Son Rise Gracie. The other members of The Fiber Flock include Shetlands (Max, Tidbit) and three Border Leicester/Jacob crosses (Bennett, Chief Whitehead, Daniel). The Fiber Flock gives us spotted, cream, white, silver/black fleeces. Our sheep are bred for hand spinning fleeces. Come see us at the Wake Forest Farmers Market, or e-mail us for fleeces available for sale. We shear in February/March, depending on the weather. We are members of the Voluntary Federal Scrapie Free Program (North Carolina Flock NC022). Our breeding animals are from OPP negative stock. |
